visite à Montréal

  • Apr. 25th, 2008 at 10:55 AM
pleasant
I'm going to be vacationing in Montréal next month, May 23-26. Anyone have any recommendations on things to do and see, places to eat, that sort of thing? So far my list includes Tea House Camellia Sinensis and the Montréal Botanical Garden. I understand that Cirque du Soleil is based there, but there don't appear to be any shows in Montréal.

The biodome! I love watching the penguins play there.

Oh, penguins! I see the biodome's near the Botanical Gardens, too, so I think I might go check it out.

Hooray! Hopefully [info]diluvienne and I could be able to join you for tea!

That would be fabulous!

Actually, maybe at the botanical gardens, too -- I imagine it'll be nice for photography there by the end of May.

I haven't yet slated a particular day/time for the botanical gardens visit. If your schedules allow, is there a particular time that would work best? I've been keeping an eye on the weather forecast, and it looks like it'll be pleasant both Saturday and Sunday.

Not entirely clear. There's a handful of assorted things [info]diluvienne and I need to do this weekend, but I'd definitely like to have tea with you (I'd suggest either Sat or Sun morning, as in my email), and weather-permitting the gardens would be fun, yes. Both days are forecast to be lovely so far...

We'll coordinate more once you're here, I suppose.

L'avenue
I highly recommend breakfast at L'avenue:

I'll see if I can dig up some pics...

Thanks for the recommendation!

In case they make it that far into the playoffs I'd try to get tickets for a Habs game (Montreal Canadians) at the Bell Center. But that's just the hockey-crazy me. Unfortunately I didn't get to see all that much of the city back in 2003...

I'm not a particular fan of hockey, but thanks for the heads-up!

Festivals
There's a web page (I don't have it handy, sorry) that lists all of the festivals in Montréal. They're pretty continuous from the May long weekend to Labour day. There's lots to see.

There's also the biodome if you want to go see penguins. =)

If you're into clubbing and dancing, there's a ton of places, you just need to pick your style. If you like smaller pubs with friends, those are everywhere. Just ask people to take you out.

Montréal is as much a place to just go and be as it is a place to go see things.

I miss it. =)

Re: Festivals
Is this the festival site you were thinking of? I'll check it out regardless. Already I see the Sunday I'm there will be Museum Day, with free admission throughout the city.

Re: Festivals
www.montreal.com/tourism/fests.html is the one I was thinking of. The one you've mention seem new (and the one I was using seems offline atm)

Have fun up North!!! Too bad you are not heading much further west. :(

Is [info]dcoombs the Fiddler on the Roof from H.S?

Re: Have fun!
Thanks!

In answer to your question: not at all; he's a Montréaler whom I met at the Ottawa Linux Symposium.

Perhaps, but I can't say I see much resemblance in this case. Here's a good photo of [info]dcoombs.
